Comment:
I will probably catch some flak from the more serious-minded mixers on AOTM for this selection. But I've never been serious in my life, so why start now? Lotsa trax from my (Long ago) youth; stuff my mum bought me; and just stuff which has been running around in my cranium for goodness knows how long. A stack of guilty pleasures, and I don't care if I've lost any psych cred! So Sue Me. A tip of the hat to Sean Lally for the inspiration from his "My stupid youth" mix from way back. Enjoy.
Feedback:
It's a relief to admit the songs that you love to hate ;)
No need to apologize. Who doesn't have songs like this left over from their youth?
Outstanding! Getting in touch with the inner child is a logical waypoint on the road to enlightenment. See also K-Tel Krazy Kuts and Greasy Kid Stuff. Infested Slabs forever!
I love this, Gerry!
Wow, Gerry! This is great. I'm with you - it's fun to revisit your youth and see how you've grown (or not) since then. The neat thing about this mix is how similar (but different) the musical childhood was of people of similar age across the pond from each other. Some hits were universal, while others appear to be more national. ANyway, I'm really happy to see this - it should start a trend!
Wow Gerry indeed. Very cool.
tie me kangaroo down sport! gerry, this is lots of fun! and did you know rolf harris was from perth? (probably not!)
Sickly sweet, I might add. And M. Lally is perfectly right, of course. Being from da Germ, it's weird that I knew just about every song from HIS stupid youth but am quite lost as to some of the stuff represented here (Jasper Carrott? The Four Pennies?? Brian & Michael???)which, apparently, never even made it across the Channel. But, hey, those Brits are a mighty wild & crazy bunch: a few years ago, they even made the freaking Teletubbies No. 1 on the GB singles charts . . .
Jasper Carrott !!!! I haven't heard that name in years. This is truly inspirational.
stupid me it should say "It's a relief to admit the songs that you hate to love" of course ;)
Yep, and we're about to unleash The Fast Food Rockers on an unsuspecting world... I like this, specially 'Sugar sugar' (a great song and the video is hysterical) and 'Puff the Magic Dragon' (sounds very sad to me now).
I wish some of my mixes were more like this
I suppose I'd be in a better position to give you a hard time about how frightening this is... if the very first album I ever bought with my own money wasn't the Osmonds' Crazy Horses (perhaps the worst album ever recorded, right alongside Billy Joel's Attilla side project).
yes, Marc. We all have musical skeletons in the closet. I have a whole graveyard!Hey Bear, I know what you mean about Puff. Always makes me feel sad.
I suppose a skeletons-in-the-closet mix is inevtitable. And welcomed....it is rather amazing the similarities for those of us "of an age" and what we were listening to, although I'm unfamiliar with some on here, too. Good fun Gerry!
Hmmm......"inevitable" rather. Or, even.
Nice to see someone whose youth was as equally "stupid" as my own. Good show.
This looks great! I just got back from vacation. This would have been wonderful to listen to on the long car ride back home.
This looks like another winner in anyone's book Gerry. Sorry I didn't discover it earlier. I think I'll keep my skeletons hidden in the closet for now...
This looks like something I've GOT to hear!
