Comment:

A collection of mostly obscure (but great) bubblegum songs recorded in the late 60s/early 70s, when the genre was at its peak. I think you'll notice the one exception. Sean Lally and Popkulcher already posted excellent bubblegum mixes earlier this year, so I tried not to duplicate selections from their compilations. I have to thank sweet Thomas Mohr for track 14. Sorry that I somehow overlooked the Archies. If there's a volume two, I'll be sure to invite them.

4 outta' 5 Dentists recommend it! I'm with g.a.b., watched every episode of the Splits, eating my Quisp ceral as my rogue brother munched Quake.

I have stated it many times, The Splits are my biggest influence. Musically and visually. Once, when I had difficulty explaining how I wanted this video insert/sales reel to look, I made the producer and the rest of the crew watch an old Banana Splits episode and surprisingly I wasn't fired. My fave bubblegum selection would have to be "Love Tunnel" by Pawnee Drive. It is sometimes listed as "Ride" or "Take a Ride". It is one of the most suggestive bubblegum songs out there (and that is saying something). Lyrics like "gonna take a ride in your love tunnel, gonna have some fun...bang, bang, bang...we love it deep inside." If anyone finds a decent version of it (sadly my old beat up 45 of it is MIA), you would make me one happy person.

Thanks for the courtesy copy, Ion. Just in time for my kids' birthday! I don't even want to imagine how many horrifyingly bad albums you must have picked up to track down all these tracks.

Looks great, Ion. One of these days I'll catch up on trades and we can set up another one for the likes of this.

What a great damn comp and the cover is perfect. I never would have even thought of throwing the Andy Partridge cut on a bubblegum comp - a stroke of genius on your part. As always, great job.

Thanks for sending this to me! I especially dug the Lancelot Link and Giogio tracks. The biggest revelation here is that the Banana Splits have a harder sound than I ever imagined.
