Comment:

In 1995, MCA released the tremendous Playback box set, which had tons of rarities and B-sides from the career of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. My best friend Kyle made this tape for me when the box set came out, and it's simply perfect. Consisting of songs which you can find on Playback, it's got lots of covers (Jimmy Reed, Nick Lowe, the Byrds, Count Five, et. al.), live recordings, alternate takes (a much seedier reading of "Louisiana Rain"), and songs which make you ask the question "Why wasn't this on Full Moon Fever?" Hell, even the duration of silence between songs is perfect. It'll make you sing along to the familiar tunes, and marvel at the unfamiliar ones. And of course, you'll play them back again.
