Comment:
I followed the same inspiration and guidelines from my first Anti-Valentines Day CD, but spent more time looking for the perfect songs. This time, I tried to include some of the newest heartbreak songs (Beck and Reel Big Fish) plus some of the artists I think do the best job of capturing the sour side of love in their lyrics (Bob Dylan, Warren Zevon, Aimee Mann). I also threw in one bit of comic relief (Biz Markie-Just a Friend) that still fits the rejected feel of the CD.
A lot of these songs have very personal poignancy for me, as I listened to the albums they came from as I was trudging through some deep depression. Albums like "Blood on the Tracks" by Dylan, "Sea Change" by Beck," "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" by Smashing Pumpkins and the "Magnolia" soundtrack with Aimee Mann are classics in heartbreak and desperation and should be owned by everyone who has felt these emotions...The rest of you can just keep buying Britney Spears, N'Sync and Nickelback....
Feedback:
Comic relief on an Anti-Valentines Day mix makes you do that laugh-cry weird thing, which is a glorious experience. Huzzah - good mix! PS And re: your comment on my mix of unlistenable songs w/good titles - "Hooray for Pink Floyd freaks!"
Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback guys (and gals?). I've found my online Promised Land with this site. So, many mixes to look through, so little time before you have to attend to those bothersome things like work, sleep, eating...
