Comment:

I made this for my cousin in August of 99. I had just recently received the live Joy Division release of 'Preston 28 February 1980' after putting in an order for the album weeks earlier. The live version of "The Eternal" has an especially infinite beauty which seems to be affortless despite the difficulties the band appear to be having with the bass during the gig, thus not being able to continue the song in its entirety. I recall listening to the same live song again and again less than a year later on the day which marked the twentieth anniversary of Ian Curtis' death, still believing there could be no song more stagnantly beautiful. The other music accompanying Joy Division on the mix are Nick Cave, The Cocteau Twins and Public Image Limited. Bands that I have always placed in the same category of appreciation. And also all the songs being from the first albums I had ever bought of these particular artists. Nick Cave's 'Best Of', a great starter for anyone wanting to hear more Nick Cave. Cocteau Twins' 'Head Over Heels', slightly gothic but just the right amount of it. Public Image Limited's 'Second Edition', excellent through and though. "The Suit" having a bass line particularly reminiscent of Cure's "Subway Song". The title of the mix I actually nicked from a line in Nick Cave's "From Her To Eternity". Ian Curtis and Bernard Sumner grace the cover... sharing secrets.
