Comment:

All right, so I'll admit something. Through the years as I've made mixes for people the process has been somewhat self-therapeutic and not always in the interest of the person I'm making it for. Well maybe that's not entirely true because I really do believe that they must hear these songs themselves, but I also try very hard to impress them in the process. And this would include dabbling a bit in autosuggestion myself. Autosuggestion is defined in the dictionary as an influencing of one's own attitudes, behavior, or physical condition by mental processes other than conscious thought : SELF-HYPNOSIS. See, songs really make me think. When I listen to a song I REALLY listen to it; I meditate on the lyrics and the music sets me into a certain state or mood, my mind begins to see things in a different light, to realize certain facts I missed before. I figure if this is the kind of affect music can have on me it must be able to do this to anybody else. I made this for my boyfriend, subliminally trying to show him I suppose the sort of mad state my mind has been in recently; as well as why I love the Bunnymen so much! He has told me before that he finds my musical taste (among other things) quite eccentric. I take hold of certain bands and music and love them to death, beyond my control and any reason. I've even been known to obsess a bit. I don't think he really understands this, it's just beyond his grasp. I can't really explain it either, sometimes you will just feel a certain connection with some band or music and that is just it. It becomes unconditional. Perhaps as time and life circumstances change you, your love for it will pale or cool off considerably, but there are always fragments left and you never forget how it made you feel. That's the important bit I think. Music can build you, make the person you are. Add elements to you. Change your thoughts, ideas and opinions or rather just mirror these and make them stronger. While I find lyrics and music important what proves most poignant to me is the aura it gives off. Bands like Interpol and The Walkmen have achieved this most successfully. I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness are the band I anticipate most eagerly and expect great things from in the future; they really have something special. Much of this mix forces me to dance. Sure it's that mad-in-the-head sort of dancing which is the only kind I do really. In fact, what I consider my own personal `dance' music is quite different from what most people consider and one of these days I will make a mix pertaining to that, but now is not the time... stay tuned if you're curious. So, I basically built this mix around Joy Division's "Autosuggestion" nicking the title from it as well, I'm finding myself doing that more often nowadays, I don't know, I suppose it's laziness. Anyway, I've always found it be a fantastic song, the way it starts out quite slow and builds up and then sort of explodes at it's climax. That's the kind of music my boyfriend has said he's intent on making himself, `climactic', so that was entirely in his interest, as is everything else I do. So spoiled.
