Comment:
This is my tribute to the instrumental music of the 1980s -- the kind of stuff that came out in the wake of all the new, synthetic production techniques being used by new wave bands. This is the kind of music that most excited me when I was in high school. As much as I appreciated bands who wrote straightforward songs, I was more impressed with creative arrangements, strange timbres, atypical percussion, and layered noise. There's a little bit of all of those things represented on these 4 volumes, which include some of my favorite oddities from the era -- with a special emphasis on The Art of Noise, who pioneered the cause of creative instrumental pop music, and proved that just because something is "industrial" doesn't mean it can't also be fun to listen to.
