Comment:

Today is my 50th birthday, the Rock and Roll era is celebrating it's 50th birthday. Coincidence? I think NOT! So what was the top song of 1954? Bill Haley's Rock Around The Clock? Surely "The King" Elvis? That be no. The answer my friend is not blowing in the wind but in fact is Doris Day's Secret Love. A couple of side notes. Cara Mia was later done by Jay and the Americans, and Elvis done a version of Such A Night. The two Wanted songs are the same song. Peace Love and Happiness.

I dig the Doris Day cut. And as much as I love the Sinatra version of "3 Coins" I can't hear it without thinking of Steve Martin trying to start a sing-a-long with that song in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.

This is a brilliant representation of the musical backdrop during the year I was born. I've no doubt those "Wonder Years" guys will cover this soon. It will be fscinating to compare the two. This one's winning so far -- ha ha etc. You've even included the Sinatra song that was number one on the UK "Hit Parade" on the day I popped into this world. It's been an interesting journey and it's nice to reflect upon the start. Thanks.
