Comment:

Now that summer's finally here, I thought now was a good time to submit another Pet Soundalikes mix. Once again, I have to thank my pal Valis for providing some of the above, like the excellent Russian Futurists and the Shimmer Kids Underpop Association. He's become the Carl Wilson of Pet Soundalikes, contributing more and more songs as the series progresses. I commissioned Gary Baseman to do the cover art. As usual, suggestions for a possible future edition are welcome. I'm not sure if I have another one left in me, but I thought that after PS2.

Hands on buzzers! -- here's a quiz: There are three covers of songs never recorded by the Beach Boys on this mix , not counting Dave Edmunds' re-write of the Trade Winds song. Be the first to name the original artists and a copy will be delivered to your door. Honest.

I am one of the "chosen few" to already own a pre-release promo copy of this, so to speak, and I must say, it's just as briolliant as vols. 1-3. In other words: a must-have. And, er, WHERE did you get that Trade Winds track? ;)

Can't believe you keep knocking this out -- looks cool, per usual. A few cover songs: "Cruisin' Music" originally by the Raspberries; "Care of Cell 44" originally the Zombies; and "So Much In Love" was originally an (unrecorded) Stones track. (Ok, fine, I sought some help from Google on that last one.)

Beautiful!!!
Outstanding choice for the leadoff track---gods bless the (Wylie-era) Cosmic Rough Riders! The sections: 6-12 & 17-23, and, lastly, Fugu into the Russian Futurists is as strong as any prior version of this Soundtrack of My Summer Series! Thank you, Ion! (Also, a big thanks to Sean Lally for the Shimmer Kids---great band!) The Manics just nail it, don't they? Hmm, Carl....OK, Brion.

Google-aided Marc was the first to buzz in and correctly answer the question. Nice work! I'll ship out a copy to the lucky winner this week.

Great job. One more to go and you've equaled the Good Vibrations box set. Then you can start working on the book. ;-)

Beach boy would-have-beens & alternate universe might have beens . . . surfin' skeletons!
(It's very hard for me to imagine Pat Boone as a wannabe Beach Boy . . .)

Very nice. I'd like to hear that Zombies cover, and the Manics- that was on the radio t'other day. I'd forgotten what a great track it is. 'Ba-ba-da' etc.

OK - I'm late on this one, but I've got to say thumbs up on another winner. Again, you take what could be a predictable concept and blow it wide open. Love the fact that including stuff like Russian Futurists, which would never even enter my mind when making a mix like this. I like the way your mind works.

Any serious Beach Boys fan will appreciate all four volumes of this series. There are 2 covers of "Girl Don't Tell Me" (one of my favorites) including an amazing French one and adding the Shins answer song "Girl Inform Me" was a stroke of genius. Phenomenal stuff.

I swear, it is like you were born to compile these Beach-Boys-inspired collections. Brilliant.

You know, I was just about to e-mail you to recommend that exact Shimmer Kids Underpop Association song to you for this series... and you already beat me to it, you bastard.
