Comment:
The idea behind this mix was to provide a starting point for someone who has no idea about music which exists outside the cynical "Pop Idol/music made with the sole purpose of making someone famous" ethos and who has no reference points regarding soulful, sexy pop and rock n roll music. It's not really a catch-up as much as something to whet the appetite and dust off the third eye. Each of these songs is meant to show just what is possible with music and to demonstrate the life enhancing power of a great song. This mix should showcase the soaring beauty, passion and truth contained in music at its very best. If someone asked me why I love music so much then I'd just hand them this CD.There were about a million songs I wanted to put on, but I wanted to make it short enough to fit on to an 80 minute CD. So, it's not definitive by any means and there is nothing earlier than late 1950s or later than the late 1980s but that's why it's called Part One...:-)

Feedback:
Very nice choice from the Stooges. All around this looks like a pretty solid mix.
Interesting.
Quite a grand theme to try to encapsulate in eighty minutes, but you did a nice job with it. With the exception of Patti Smith (who I still can't listen to after all of these years) and Janes I really dig everything here. Most of these are fave bands of mine and you picked some real representative tracks.
interesting choices.
