Comment:

I made this mix WAY back in March for Mom and Dad. I'm a very poor girl and couldn't afford a gift for their 30th Wedding Anniversary (coincidentally they were married on the 30th of March as well, hence the title) nor did I have any clue as to what to buy them. My mom had been nagging me to make her a mix of various music she liked. So that spurred me on. I thought well that's what I'll do then. I'll make 2 discs and I'll just put A LOT of work into it. So I made a real handsome case for it. I scanned an old photo of Mom and Dad from when they were dating back in the 70s. It was ideal for the cover. And then I also scanned things my mom had written in their Wedding book especially a bit about the 2 of them driving around and listening to the music (2 things they must have passed on to me). I won't go into long boring details about everything I did for the case but I was very proud of how it turned out. And I thought that using those Verbatim brand CDRs that look like records was something the folks would appreciate. This was actually one of the funnest mixes I've ever made. I took songs that I pretty much for my part liked and thought Mom and Dad would like as well. Mom heard the Flaming Lips song on the Nissan or whatever it was commercial and loved it. And they both have always liked `Pictures Of You'. I listen to OMD today in part because Mom and Dad had one of their albums when I was but a mere child. My Mom loves Depeche Mode, Peter Murphy, Pet Shop Boys and Duran Duran. She actually bought a Roxy Music album. I still love that I managed to get an Echo And The Bunnymen song on here, not to mention The Stranglers! Finally, I knew that I just had to put some Fleetwood Mac songs on here since they're one of my parents favourite bands. And while I'm an avid Cure/Joy Division/Smiths fan, I can't deny that even a band like Fleetwood Mac are also part of my musical DNA. It's very nice, if you have the means, to bond with your parents regardless of how, but doing so through music is such an amazing way. You can find out a lot about them and maybe even yourself. It was great getting to make this mix because it involved 2 of the most important things in my life Music and Family. -- By the way, of course they liked their gift. I mean parents always like their child's gifts right? But hey, I'm sure they genuinely liked it too.
