Comment:
Mix #37, made in January of 2005. No book theme. The theme is DESOLATION. One facet of the mix that worked out well: there is just a little over an hour between the last line of track 2 ("Meet me at the statue in an hour") and the beginning of track 19. I suppose the daydreaming in track 18 made me late. The first track might be a self-indulgent and cringeworthy pick (my name is Joe, for those who have heard the song in question), but it also seemed too appropriate to pass up. This mix has several stories running through it: trying to avoid relationships with people you like but could never love, without causing them hurt; breaking off relationships with such people when you cowardly assented to the relationship in the first place; finding old friends busy with new friends; recognizing the root of one's loneliness; recognizing the blessings of the present; imagining and hoping for certain blissful futures. It's my fifth focused attempt to sum up my present situation and state of mind.Feedback:
I love your mixes!!! I'm seeing a lot of our tastes overlapping.
But really, I love this narrative theme you've got going. This mix, in particular, really strikes me. I'm working on a mix that's kind of similar in theme. Desolation, but in the lone "journey" kind of way. We'll see how that turns out... :)
I feel like the piece "Ghosts of Things to Come" from the Requiem for a Dream score would fit beautifully in this mix.

Though I don't know many of the songs on this mix, I like many of the artists, and have heard excellent things about others... which probably means I ought to check them out, no?
Love the Tom Waits tune!
Killer first 4 tunes then love the 10-16 stretch too.
