Comment:

The first in my series on the history of Rock 'n Roll. These are the early years (in chronological order) before 'Rock Around The Clock' was released in 1954 and became a huge hit in 1955. So these are like the stepping stones that culminated in what became known as Rock 'n Roll. Blues, Jazz, Country, Rhythm & Blues, Gospel, Pop (and more, I'm sure) all played a part. The title is taken from the song by Kevin Johnson, which will probably appear around about Volume 6 or so (if I ever manage to get that far!)

Nice collection of standards. Look forward to futher volumes. I'm interested to see if you continue the mixed, more or less chronological order or start going more specifically into particular genres. Good job.

Excellent! You have obviously spent some time researching and planning this one. I had something like this in mind myself. In fact (although I hate to promote my own mixes in comments to someone else's mix) I did a similar mix concentrating on the country roots of rock and roll if you're interested. (Unfortunately, the track-by-track liner notes to the mix have since been dumped.) I'm also looking forward to your other volumes -- hope you make it to #6. Great work!

Fantastic! I was going to say something about the greatness of that opening track... then I noticed how great all the other tracks were, too. Well, well done!

Bold project, but it looks like you've got the raw material to make it work. Looking forward to further lessons.
