Comment:
A bunch of guitars. Some stuff which has been kicking around, and has turned up on quite a few compilations of mine since I started making mix tapes, way back in the early eighties. I love guitars, but funnily enough, don't listen to as much guitar music as I used to. Not because I like it less, just been exploring other avenues since finding AOTM three years ago. When I listen to this, I realise I love guitar as much as I ever did. Hope you all enhoy this and the sun is shining on AOTM'ers everywhere!Feedback:
A bit too "Freedom Rock" (a 1980s or 1990s "as-seen-on [American] TV" collection of classic rock warhorses) for me, but a couple of these songs ("Key to the Highway", "Cherry Red" and "I Got My Mojo Working" can't be denied. And although I do not personally appreciate his work post-Miles, Mr. McLaughlin could certainly work a fretboard.
I've never seen any of these tracks on a shop-bought TV-advertised(in the UK) compilation, Rob. I wish they would put them on UK compilations, in that case I'd buy more of 'em.
oh,oh, here comes those flashes backs again!
Love the Status Quo, and although I gorged myself on fusion at the time, I still dig the Mahavishnu track.
I see what Rob's saying based on the first few cuts, but then you open it wide. I know I've never seen Patto on a commercial comp before - and never that Blue Cheer song. Is "Croosroads" the Scottish pronunciation? I kid, I kid - I'm a fine one to talk about typos!
what typo? :-)
This is still a fine collection, btw. I didn't mean to say anything negative, just making an observation.
Guitar goodness! Especially like 3 and 9, and will have to check out 6 which I've never heard.
Yep - all classics. I love the cover - truly fitting! Julie Andrews RAWKS!
Got to get some of that heavy guitar fix now and then. Lots of great classic guitar stuff here. Especially like the Mahavishnu, Groundhogs, Allmans, etc.
Blue Cheer is one of those bands I've never heard but keep seeing...looks good Gerry!
Alvin' s a fave o mine Mr. Mc has been since I was a kid. Knew his wife in the mid - 80's. Don't listen to his stuff much these days but you've picked a great track there. Much other axe wielding top tunes to keep me happy.
Lotsa classics, Gerry. ....... Say, didn't Julie Andrews play with the Allman Brothers for a while? Or was it with Butterfield?
Looks great, Gerry! Love the closing tune.
Cherry Red.I haven't heard that in years.Another cracker Gerry.
A couple I hadn't thought of in years in Alvin & Trower plus favorites from Blue Cheer & The Groundhogs. Nice one, Gerry.
Lotsa 6 string wonders to be found here, Gerry. But nothing by cover star Julie Andrews? That girl could rock the hills with her impassioned guitar solos, leaving poseurs like Eddie Van Halen in the dust.
Sometimes ya' just gotta' trot out the old gee tar istas and let 'em rip.
I'm with Moe...Julie Rawks !
...anyone got tickets..?
...anyone got tickets..?
The Blue Cheer and Groundhogs tracks are some of my favourite rock songs. Cool mix.
Great, great stuff. Sometimes you have to just sit back an absorb the acousticness.
I didn't get it until I said the title outloud...duh...
Diggin' it on the G string....
