pet soundalikes 5
Comment:
Yes, it's the series that refuses to die! This could be the most Beach Boys-esque Pet Soundalikes yet, and a few of the people who've already received copies tend to agree. It only took me five volumes to get it right! It would be hard to come up with all this stuff by myself, so once again I have to thank fellow wave riders Thomas Mohr, the Mixmaker Formerly Known as J and C's Dad, Valis, Francesc, This Is Pop! and Chadzwo, who posted an excellent similar series called Wall of Pet Sounds last year. How about a softball question to win a copy? Which band from the mix later became Three Dog Night?
Feedback:
Wow. There are some absolutely stellar choices here!
The bit from XTC through to Teenage Fanclub seems particularly inspired.
Well done!

Fantastic! I'd love to hear this.
OK, this is a wild guess, but since Three Dog Night refers to keeping warm when sleeping in the cold, I'll guess The Minus 5? Anyway, very cool mix, Moe.
This does look good.
fantastic once again, I guess that Redwood later became Three dog night
p the swede is our winner! *cue canned applause* -- though I liked Mixxer's educated guess.
Since I'm among the chosen few who received an advance copy of this, I can only confirm that it's probably the best in this rightfully (and highly) acclaimed series so far. A real treat, excellently put together by an expert on this wet 'n wavy subject. Makes a little beach house in your soul.
superb stuff once more, Ion. When you're ready for a trade, my friend........
Looks really good.A trade perhaps.
Did The Hondels later become 3 Dog Night.
Nice work, great series, fabulous cover!
This looks just great, including the dramatic camera angle on the cover!
Yep - heard it, loved it!
Looks excellent, Ion. A great series...and it's about bloody time you got it right! ;~)
Tremendous, just like the rest of the series. You know to count me in on this one.
Another great one.
Sits back & ponders upon the sheer brilliance before him! I don't surf but wish to hell I was somewhere warm enough to do so right now (sod surfing in cold water in fact sod any cold water activity)
This is a really great series. Nicely done.
Can't wait to hear it. Should melt away some of the snow around here.
This may be one of those mixes,NO-IT IS one of "those mixes" where even five stars doesn't begin to do it justice. As one who was honored (read: blessed) with a pre-post copy I've had this one in the Psilocybe 7 Labs entertainment lair since I got it. I listen to parts of it everyday after initially playing it five or six times, and that was just to make sure I was hearing it right. I won't denigrate the others in this most magnificent AotM series, but I will agree with the young Pet Soundalikes master of Ceremonies:
"This could be the most Beach Boys-esque Pet Soundalikes yet."
I'd also like to give a knowing nod and some surfwax, a bikini-clad blonde -and- a brunette, to Chadzwo....the Wayne Newton melts ya', the Fleetwood Mac had me scrambling to find out what LP it was from, and I also had to do some quick research on Convoy and the Minus 5....this one does NOT let up. From start to finish you're in a sandbox. Let the genius play. And Ion, mi amigo grande, DID!

hey, glad you were able to put the Wayne song to good use. I'd like a copy of this someday. (This is J&C's Dad--I changed my screen name again.)
Wailin', Ion...long may she run!
The perfect wave, again. Satisfied even us Beach Boy agnostics.
SO cool. Really. Love the Teenage Fanclub -> end stretch. I hope this series never, ever dies.
I must say, Moe, you've done it again. My "A Wall of Pet Sounds" mixes continue to feel like the bastard child of the art-form. I have to hand it to you, Simple Carinval is a worthy inclusion that I'd never heard of (as are some others). Thanks for the nod in my direction on the Convoy tracks - you even put them at the beginning. Another masterpiece in the series.
This is truly great. I really have to own the whole set one day....!
great combination! Spanish Wine is a classic!
....still delicious!
