Comment:

Ok, here's volume 3 of my history of rock 'n roll series. As before, the "one artist, one song" rule applies.

A number of classic songs and quite a few of my favourites have been omitted due to space limitations, but I think this mix pretty much captures the spirit of the era when Rock 'n Roll was losing its heroes - Buddy Holly died, Little Richard found religion, Jerry Lee Lewis was ostracized for marrying his underage cousin, Elvis went to the army, etc, etc - and before the Beatles and The Rolling Stones picked-up American Rhythm & Blues and Rock 'n Roll and sent it back Stateside in a very big way. (I can't believe that last bit is all in one sentence! Sorry.)

Soul was starting to make its presence felt with songs by Booker T, Ike & Tina and Sam Cooke. Instrumentals were getting big and Surf Rock was very popular. Space-age pop was "launched" with 'Telstar' and The Twist was the big dance-craze.

The Beatles recorded 3 versions of 'Love Me Do' with 3 different drummers - the one included here is the 1962 single version featuring Ringo Starr.

This mix deserves 5 million stars. One of the best I've ever seen here on AOTM, and I love that you put it into historical context. Bravo! :)
