Comment:

I've had the idea for a space-travel themed mix cd for a while now, and I just finally came up with enough songs for that purpose. As for the title: In the interest of not wasting a perfectly good cd-r I ended up using a blank cd which my sister had accidentally labeled as "Ashlee Simpson - Autobiography" (to her credit she usually exhibits better musical taste than this, she seems to have a guilty pleasure for Ashlee's reality show, and at least she didn't actually buy the thing). So that was the first thing I thought of. I specifically used the Langley Schools' version of "Space Oddity" so I could get both that and Bowie's surreal Legendary Stardust Cowboy cover in there, but it really is a great eerie take on the song. And I have no idea why that Babylon Zoo song made the cut when I took ages to find it on soulseek only to find out sometimes songs you thought were cool when you were 15 turn out to seem kind of tuneless and gimmicky 7 years after the fact. Chalk it up to a perverse sense of nostalgia I guess. And finally I'd like to note that the Seksu Roba and B.C. Sterrett tracks come from Comfort Stand's excellent (and completely free) 2 disc Interplanetary Materials compilation, so check that out.

this looks brilliant...i'm not usually a fan of children's choirs but the LSMP is fantastic. all in all, a great-looking mix with a classy title. all you need is a cover with ashlee's surprised face in a rocket shooting outta here!
