Comment:

The latest girlie pop is a pure and simple collection of some of my favorite female-fronted covers, both old and new. The Petra Haden track is from her latest CD, which is a cover of the entire The Who Sell Out album. The catch? Every note is recreated using only her voice -- multi-tracked obviously. She even tackled the between song jingles as well. Gotta give props to my cover boy Thomas Mohr for giving me the scoop on tracks 4, 6, 11 and 21, as well as my brutha Sport! for that death metal version of the Bread song. Both will be getting free subscriptions.

Moe, this looks fantastic! I only know a couple - Models and Si-ST - but I get the drift and totally dig it. Great work, as always in the GP series.

Do want to register a slight complaint for crediting Iko Iko to the Dixie Cups. We need to send you to Faber College to correct that.

Oh Moe! This is just to lovely. I love the Creatures cover of Right Now (which I have on rapidly deteriorating audiotape). Let me know if you'd be up for a trade (and bitchin' cover!)

No one knows like Moe knows. He knows girls.., girlie girls. Looks like a great tracklist too! (I'm tempted to reveal my own preference for uncovered girls. But I'll resist.)

Woe, Moe! This is bordering on TOO good! I must've said "oooh, I wonder what that sounds like!" 10 times while reading through the tracklisting. And that Petra Haden album sounds amazing.

Eye opening! I had no idea the donnas shared my taste for sweet. Actually I had no idea most of these covers existed, or that euro-trash girl was a cover.

Once upon a time I had that Adult Net song on tape, but I believe I foolishly taped over it with some generic house music. D'oh!

I love AOTM because of the lack of negative comments so I will do my best to honer that, however, there is nothing pop about this list of songs. An awsome mix? Sure. Pop? No, Hell No Where is that Kelly Clarkson? Britney? Madonna? Pat Benatar? Aretha? Patti Labelle? Gwen? Pop stands for "pop"ular music. I do need to expand my music knowledge and I hear what you're gonna say, "This guy dosn't understand me or my music" Trendy feminists unite. I'll listen to all this music and probably love it, but just a suggestion try : "Cover Girls (indie girlie songs vol. 8)" This is just my opinion and I'm sure I'm wrong. For heavens sake, you got mix of the week and my mixes (like pretty much everyone elses) get like 4 comments. In fact scratch all of what I just said and allow me to start over, Ahem, Congrats on MOTW, you really earned it. I can't wait to hear Peggy Lee doing "Everyday People". Nice cover art too! You rock Ion.

Wow, great mix! I do have to make one nerdy correction, though: The Models recorded "Bend Me, Shape Me" mere months BEFORE the American Breed! I believe the story is that they were label-mates, and the record company had the American Breed record the songer after the Models so it would be a bigger hit!
