Comment:
Jenergy was kind enough to slap together a mix for me recently, so this is the thanks she gets. No departure for me here -- just more pop songs that sound good together. Hopefully Jenny will agree. I baked a devil's food cake for Rob Conroy as thanks for the catchy number by the criminally underrated Emitt Rhodes. He could have been bigger than Paul McCartney, or at least Gilbert O'Sullivan. The Osmonds track comes from their heavy metal album (well for them anyway) Crazy Horses. The guitar riff sounds so similar to the Immigrant Song that putting the songs back to back was a no-brainer. How refreshing it is to see Led Zeppelin get ripped off for a change, even if it is by a bunch of toothy Mormon kids. The Siouxsie song is an excellent cover of a Ben E. King single. Who knew these goths could sound so funky? Perhaps because it was only released as a b-side. Over and out.Feedback:
yes I've forgot about that Siouxsie song and it's really a great one, dig the rest as well
Another great one, Ion! I'd love to hear this one sometime. Great cover as well.
Thank you so much, Moe! This is just fantastic. Almost all new to me too. I'm loving it, esp the Co-Real Artists, Scritti Politti, FSK, and Patsy Montana. Amazingly, the picture on the cover really does look a lot like me.
Looks great!
Wow!
This does look fantastic. Great notes--especially the Gilbert O'Sullivan crack. ;-) And you're welcome--I'm more of a white cake guy than a Devil's food guy, but I'll happily take any token of appreciation (how to get the cake to me intact is another story...).
nice!
Looks good.I'd love to hear this.
magic stuff, Ion. Great liner notes too. I like pecan nut brownies very much, but they are a rarity on these shores (hint hint) :-)
This ain't no Duncan Hines! A lovely confection. Lucky Jenny.
This looks mighty tasty!
Nice one, Ion.
Great lookin' mix!
A nice hour of KMOE. That's my fave Emitt Rhodes song. Hooky.
Man, I haven't heard that Penguin Cafe or Siouxsie tune in years. Dig that Osmonds drop in as well.
That stretch from 13 - 21 is absolutely wild! This looks fantastic!
Love this!
Looks great, Ion.
Looks very fun. That Siouxsie song sounds great!
some funny juxtapositions in this one!
Far out! Looks like you've made a hip swinging little number. Never Heard of "Shuggie Otis", but what a name. Props on the goofy cover, too!
man i love ... golden earring? wait i meant emmitt rhodes. :sigh: my dream boy (in the sixties as the merry go round!!) isn't he just the best? that voice is so sweet.
