Nicky Loves Madonna - Daughter of Frankenstein
Comment:
Title is a chant my cousins used when I was 7.I did 2 songs per topic. Time was limited so some got only 1. All are covered except S from my first AOTM trade and his name=my name, cause I have none that apply. I just put them in an order that flowed, so some of the tracks are near their twins. When there were two modes for a topic, I did both (sun in title/reminder of summer).
S=song
1 Reminder of 1st g/f
2 Old S heard this yr
3 Bside
Rock the Casbah Bside
4 Best S from fav band's worst LP
5 S from genre I dislike
There are few genres I avoid entirely, but urban is usually one of them. I actually like the off key quality of the vocal.
6 S w/claps
7 NonEnglish
I found this on a tape at Goodwill. Judging from the other tapes I got with it, this is from Thailand. It sounds like it's from the 60s. It's fabulous and definitely not in English. If anyone can discover who it is, that would be very impressive.
8 Instrumental
9 Cover superior to original
A Jamaica-style cover of the Bon Jovi song I don't care for
10 S from genre I dislike
This urban track is from Germany. It's a remix with a Jamaican syncopation. The main line translates to: Look me in the eyes once more before you go
11 S from last CD bought
12 ""
I got Stereolab and a Reggae comp on the same day
13 Sexy S
This song has a sexy feel to it, while its partner (A16) is sexy in another way
14 Reminder of summer
This song takes me to the summer of 02 when I got this LP in Germany. It's a great summer jam.
15 Sun in title
This one hit wonder album is actually a lot of fun. Lots of sunshine in this track.
16 Sexy S
This one's sexy because it's full of innuendo (box=piano). This was a horrendously cheesy slice of house-rockin' R&B from 1980. I dig novelty, but this was so bad I couldn't stand it. Then my wife suggested I play the 45 at 33 RPM. It worked. The slur of the speed change seems to mock the song enough to make it funny. Still, the puzzler to me is the line of the chorus that goes "Bang bang bang! Mr Bill! Oh no!" I know who Mr Bill is, but I have no clue why he's in this song.
17 Fav TV S
18 Under 1 min
19 Under 1 min
1 S w/claps
I think these claps may be woodblocks. But there are plenty of songs with claps on this tape if it bothers you. This is from the Talking Heads movie True Stories.
2 Old S heard this year
This is my latest favorite song that I can't get enough of
3 NonEnglish
Yep that Bj÷rk, this time singing in her native Icelandic with a jazz trio.
4 Reminder of 1st g/f
5 S from grad year
I had to search for a while to find a song from 98 that I was actually playing in 98!
6 S from recent band seen live
This song is special because it is a recording from the actual show I was at, plus they wrote this song just for the venue: City Limits in Tucson, AZ
7 Live S superior to studio
I'm not sure that this is better, but the big atmospheric live sound adds a new dimension to the song. This is from the EP The Lion and the Witch.
8 S makes me cry
This instrumental really is so sweet it's been known to make me misty
9 S from my grad yr
Not released in my grad year, but it was my class song. It played while we tossed hats.
10 7th S
This is a melodic posthardcore take on God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen. It's from an Immigrant Sun sampler.
11 Cover superior to original
Since I am no longer crazy for Madonna, this is as close as she got to getting on the tape.
12 Beatlesque S
13 Title=?
14 Theme S for life
MST theme is my fav TV song, but this one seemed to fit for a theme song for my life. I'm unsure why. It felt right.
15 7th S
16 Best S from fav band's worst LP
17 S from 1st band seen live
The first concert I went to w/o my dad. It got rained out. They played for 10 min.
Feedback:
Dang that's hard to read! Sorry! Wish I could learn to shut up.
I can empathize with the desire to post lengthy comments. If you type br in between arrow characters (on the period and comma keys), you can break after a line, as you would with the return key. You have a cool mix here. Nice to see someone took the cassette route. I almost did, too. I couldn't find a cassette in my room long enough for my frankenstein mix, though, so I had to switch some songs for shorter ones, which meant I had to rejigger the order to maintain flow, and before I knew it, I'd been working on the project for three months. That Slackers song sounds cool, and I like a lot of your picks on Side Two. BTW, how much space is your tape? Looks pretty long.
Thanks! Yeah, it's a 120 minute tape. Since I wanted to do a "double Frankenstein" I knew I'd need as much time as I could get!
Does the break thing work in the feedback? I'll try it.
