Comment:

School's back -- and so is Kids Rock, with another mix devoted to songs featuring the sounds of children's voices. This one's a little different, focusing instead on artists who have enlisted youngsters, whether it be a few neighborhood kids or the London Bach Choir, to add a touch of innocence to their songs. It makes one's heart warm to hear our nation's youth merrily proclaim "drug dealing just to get by, stack your money 'til it gets sky high" or "people ain't no good." And do I even have to tell you what lyrics Yo La Tengo get the kids to sing on their Sun Ra cover!? In most cases the children (or parents) are financially compensated for their work, but not in the case of 23 former students at the Islington Green School, who recently filed a "class" action lawsuit to collect unpaid royalties for their vocal contributions to Pink Floyd's "The Wall." I had several leftovers (the last song cut was "Do You Know What Time It Is?" by the P-Nut Gallery), but perhaps they'll turn up later. You've been warned.
How about a quiz?: What year was the kindergarten class photo on the cover taken? Be the first with the correct answer and you'll get a free copy for show and tell. One guess per AOTMer please.

Wow, alot of pride in this bunch. I'm guessing 83. BTW, I put one of these mixes in the 'trainspotters" exhibit, great concept, incredible collection. I'm partial to the Clash's Sandinista version of Career Opportunities that I definitely could see that redheaded boy singing.

"School's back in session. Let's begin our lesson." I haven't heard the Sun Ra cover, but I'd have proudly lent my child to that chorus. I can't decide if these kids are sporting original styles or Target retro. I'll go with the latter & say 2000.

No correct answer yet, but I'm amazed at the range of answers. And no this wasn't my class, but I'll bet you the kid with the pimp hat got plenty of tail.

Makes me want to be a kid once again. This looks like 1986, judging by the clothes.

A suggestion for your next Kids mix; "Against The Peruvian Monster" by Man Man, a great song (which I'd be happy to send). and, as for the year, I'm gonna go with 1985.

Another fine session of moe's "Kids sing the darndest things" (-- & I'm going to guess a bicentennial 1976.)

Look at the collars on those pix - got to be 1971 - I'm laughing a lot at the cover, but the mix is great too - there has to be a dodgy Paul McCartney song to go on here (and I am a fan).

Congratulations to joey de vivre! His guess of 1976 was right on the money. Now does anyone want to guess which school they attended?

Great mix. The pic has got to be 1984. I think I'm maybe the kid second from the left in the middle. But I don't remember, I was doing a lot of drugs that year. The pimp kid next to me was great at breakdancing and during the End Year Assembly he dedicated a dance to "Foxy Miss Brown," the student teacher from Cal State.

It wasn't a fashion school,that's for sure.We're back,well I am,Kathryn is at work.Great idea,although I think kids should be banned from singing on records,the exception being Clive Dunn's Grandad,of course.

This is such a great theme/series/mix. I'll bet that the school is somewhere in San Diego but I have no idea how many elementary schools there must be in San Diego.

Really cool, although I have to admit, I do feel a sense of dread when I hear the kids on the Wizzard track for the first time during the Christmas season, simply because I know I'll be hearing them in every single shop I go into for the next few weeks. :) Lots of great picks here - Gorillaz, YLT and The Cramps especially! Well done you!

I mean this in the best possible way: you make some weird-ass mixes. That opening cut is both everything wrong with this mix and the perfect opener. We can talk more about it at recess.
