Comment:

Green & Gold is a two-part series featuring some of Australia's best musicians, both past and present. Volume I is entirely Rock `n Roll, whereas Volume II, when I get around to it, will be a lot more pop-centric (expect to see: The Church, The Go-Betweens, The Avalanches, etc).

Australian rock has always been furious and dirty; laden with rippling guitar riffs, distinct accents, and of course, a sense of humor. However, we're currently lacking any artists that are willing to take the genre to a new level, and imitation seems to be all anyone is capable of these days... With this mix, I really wanted to showcase the bands that give/gave Down Under a good name; the type of artists that our newer rock bands (with the listed exceptions) seem obsessed with ripping off (I'm looking at you, Jet) . Listen To This Whilst: Getting drunk with your mates, having a BBQ (should include first option), driving down long highways, engaging in illegal boxing matches with Kangaroos (often the result of the first two options.), and so on.

Not a fan of their whiny-voiced brattish punk. They're funny, though.

missed this at the time . . . . loads to love here (esp the oils and Nick Cave) . . . yeah, Oz rock is pretty unique and whilst there is derivitive stuff largely available, I think that there is a great live scene and loads of originality too. I wish the Brit rock scene had the energy of the Oz scene at times . . .
