Comment:

90 minutes long. Tape 2 of my 6 tape set. This has taken me hours to compile. This album covers the years after Bowies begginnings and his stay with the Spiders from Mars.
Run down of the tracks and the way the album has been layed out.
DIAMOND DOGS - The first track off the 1974 album. Since it starts with cheers it was fitting that it opened up this compilation. Great song.
SWEET THING - Originally a 3 parter from the Diamond Dogs album. This is the first part of the 3 and works very well alone. This track was also just included on the newly released Bowie Collection (compiled by Bowie).
REBEL REBEL - The monster hit from Diamond Dogs, with good cause.
1984 - I know many a Bowie fan that dislikes this song. A disco type song, still a minor single for Bowie. This song works well with the following song, both are about the same material.
BIG BROTHER - CHANT OF THE EVER CIRCLING SKELETAL FAMILY - The last tracks used from Diamond Dogs. Big Brother is such an overlooked Bowie gem. Better than We Are the Dead from Diamond Dogs in my opinion. A great farwell to the future Bowie persona. After a short pause our next track fades in.
KNOCK ON WOOD - A great cover by Bowie from his Diamond Dogs tour. The only live track I've used so far. The small amounts of sax used on this track segways nicely into the giant sax explosion of our next track.
YOUNG AMERICANS - Mega Bowie. The beggining of plastic soul. Not as big as Fame, but a fav of mine. This is the 5:11 track used, not the single edit which I despise.
FAME - Bowie's frist American #1 hit, with John Lennon! What's your name?
VELVET GOLDMINE - This track was made in 1972, but released in 1975. The 1999 Bowie 69-74 comp has this track on it, but it is really from 1975, don't be fooled. Since this is an older track, it works nicely against our next one.
JOHN, I'M ONLY DANCING (AGAIN) - The 1972 single is updated here, this new disco version that runs 6:57 was released in 1976. This song is alot of fun if you let yourself get into it. (Have you heard the news? President has got the blues.) Classic.
GOLDEN YEARS - The big hit from Station to Station, though many a Bowie fan would say every track from that album is a giant hit. This is the 3:59 version, not the single edit.
WORD ON A WING - The only Bowie track I know of that can make me cry. This is beautiful, and was included on the newly released Bowie Collection.
TVC15 - Another minor hit from Station to Station. Inspired by a drug fueled story told to David by Iggy Pop. Alot of fun.
WILD IS THE WIND - One of David's most impressive vocal works out there, if not his best. This is a cover, and a million times better than the original.
BREAKING GLASS - The first Bowie/Eno track to appear on this comp. Short and so sweet.
SOUND AND VISION - Anyone not familiar with this song needs to hear it. Simply amazing. The biggest track from Low.
ALWAYS CRASHING IN THE SAME CAR - Another Low track, sort of overlooked. This appears on the new Bowie Collection. I have always loved it. (So many great instrumentals from Low and Heroes do not appear on this comp, usng instrumentals didn't seem right. I will probably make a Bowie instrumental comp.)
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST - Great energetic track from "Heroes". This appears on the new Bowie Collection.
"HEROES" - Massive hit, many consider this Bowie's best song ever. The effect to create the voice echo on this track was made by Bowie singing down a hallway that had 8 mics set up in it. Amazing.
THE SECRET LIFE OF ARABIA - Another overlooked track from "Heroes".
D.J. - Biggest track from The Lodger, the last of the Bowie/Eno Berlin trilogy. This song rocks! (I am a DJ and I am a mix tape).
REPETITION - The most introspective track from Lodger, takes some getting used to, but it is one of Bowie's greatest. Also appears on the new Bowie Collection. Finally it was put on a hit collection after all these years! You know what you're doing David.
Stay tuned for 1980-1986.
