Comment:

Okay, the actual mix isn't really depressing enough to justify the title, but a few days ago the phrase occured to me when I realized I hadn't accomplished very much with my year, and while I'm kind of over that, the phrase stuck with me. On some individual songs: I have no idea why DJ John's mixing of the Charlie Brown theme with the drums from "When The Levee Breaks" by Led Zeppelin makes me think of The Go! Team, but it does. The Porn Orchard track is commonly mislabled as being by Tom Waits and Peter Murphy, as it features pretty entertaining impressions of both of their vocal styles. Georgia And August Greenberg are both under 10 years old, and also have a rendition of "Jingle Bells" I decided not to use. Drunken Boat and The Reducers were both cases where I started running out of ideas and just started typing "christmas" and "x-mas" into soulseek and grabbing things that looked interesting, but I like both tracks a lot. In particular I like that Drunken Boat kind of come off as predecessors of early Modest Mouse. And finally, The Frogs' "Here Comes Santa's Pussy" is pretty catchy and yet not something you'd want to be caught singing aloud, which from what I've heard of theirs means it's pretty much business as usual for them.
