Comment:

Twenty two all time classics and not a single top ten hit to be found. Hard to believe.

You've done it again, sammyg123 - astounded me. Charts, ha! Where we're going we don't need no stinkin' charts! I looked long and hard but could not find a track that isn't excellent. Cures you, sammyg123. You have taste and perception.

Of course you realise I meant "curse" not "cures"...or did I?

Nobody ever believes me when I tell them that "Brown Eyed Girl" wasn't a British hit! The last two bands who played down my local pub included it in their set - surely the most famous song never to have charted in the UK?! I wonder how good a mix could be compiled from singles which didn't chart at all? (...Another surprising one is "Hold On I'm Coming") Cool concept.

Ha ha he he ho ho etc. Now that's funny, eh...eh... No, well it made me almost laugh. Oh, on a totally different subject, I am able to cofirm (thanks to sammyg123) that "Brown Eyed Girl" was never a hit in Britain. I knew that. No, really, I did. The other ones are a surprise though. Alright, I'm going...but I may return.

Yeah well at least most of these bands garnered their due acclaim. Poor, poor Wannadies...perpetually denied their turn in the spotlight. That song is only known because of "Romeo & Juliet", too. There are tons of even better ones that they've done that should be #1 on the charts. Oh well. Cool idea for a mix.

Interesting. I can't recall that Wannadies song and hate the Boston song, but the rest are indeed classics.

Yea. I'm not too keen on Boston either. I included it purely because most people would assume that it reached the dizzy heights.

Interesting, and certainly a good mix of music. I'd kind of consider anything that makes Top 40 to be a hit. So to me the irony is that so many popular songs are so damned good.

Sammyg's encylopaedic knowledge is put to good use once gain. Every single track is great. The fact that none made the "top ten" is proof that charts are just numbers; and numbers have no soul -- stay calm you mathematicians.

Unfortunately, most of 'em have been played to death anyway (if I'll ever have to listen to "Losing My Religion" again, I'll probably . . . lose my breakfast or sth). I always had a penchant for "More Than a Feeling", though. "Brown-Eyed Girl" charted just about exclusively in the US (#10); it certainly wasn't among the 125 best-selling 1967 singles in Germany. Well, it might've been a hit in Singapore, too, who knows . . . ;)
