Comment:

Release date: 15 Feb 1990. I don't have a copy of this one, but Sarah was kind enough to send me the info. Scan of the cover to follow, someday. From Sarah... "the cover is a photo of Art, you, me and Nick in sort of a heap on the sofa in my parents' living room (I think Art had been feeling sick and we unsympathetically dog-piled him)". This was probably the 2nd mix I ever made with a photo glued-on to the cover (WKW3 was the first). What about 1, 2, and 4, you ask? I'll save that story for another mix.

Some influence for this tape came from seeing "Say Anything" for the first time (on Betamax!) at Sarah's in CA when Art and I flew out there in Dec 1989 during Christmas break to ski and visit his west-coast family. Also saw The Adventures of Baron Munchausen on Beta, but there were no decent songs in that movie. I had my 'Piano Man' cassette with me and listened to it that whole week. This tape is a weird combination of 80's cheese and emerging 90's alternative tastes. I have a strange recollection of Dave calling me at home one night yelling that "the Arizona Sky video is on MTV right now!" and I stopped what I was doing to catch it. I guess he and I really liked that song, or something. I still listen to that China Crisis CD. I guess it's just one of those albums that's stuck in time for me. I think Squeeze was the 1st live show I ever saw, maybe at the Ritz in NYC, when they toured for Babylon and On. Another great album that I'll never get tired of. I almost got to see The Replacements open for Elvis Costello in NYC Spring '91, but the show sold-out, or maybe I was grounded. Now that'll never happen.
