Comment:

I was very pleased to see Tom Waits voted the fourth best living songwriter in Paste Magazine's poll. When i showed the list to some co-workers I discovered that i had to defend his position. Here is his defense. Enjoy!

very nice. I love that soundtrack he did with Crystal Gayle. 7,9,15 are some of my favorites on this one.

Great stuff. Like all such lists I disagree with most of it. Beck above Ray Davies? Jeff Tweedy above John Prine? I find that hard to swallow. Great mix here though. Love that closer.

love a good argument provoking list . . . and love a bit of Tom. Nice mix this . . . I'm amazed at how much I don't know as well. Good stuff.

I do regret Hold On didn't make my final cut. Tom has enough material for about 12 more mixes so get crackin'. I just aquired Alice.

Looks really great; love just about everything by Tom and you've made good choices - 9 and 18 particularly. It's definitely nice to see him recognised in the list - there are some people on there whose positions I disagree with though. Conor Oberst is a bit far up there for my liking (i.e. above Alex Chilton) and Bowie not quite high enough...but that's just me :) Great mix.

Excellent job,a fine sampling of thirty years of excellence. Thanx for the pointer to the Paste list, that's a hell of a top 10, isn't it? Would have liked to see Nick Cave and John Darnielle a bit higher but, you know.
