Comment:
Another edition of what's happening at my favorite free concert series WDVX's Blue Plate Special, weekdays at noon in downtown Knoxville and streamed on the internet at WDVX.COM. I haven't got cd's for everyone I've seen so groups like the Carolina Chocolate Drops and The Two Man Gentleman Band will hopefully appear on a later volume. Volume Two's highlights include:
David Olney, one of my favorites who rocks harder the older he gets.
The Red Stick Ramblers who brought their cajun flavored party music to Knoxville.
Korby Lenker, who's Come Closer is one the the sexiest vocals by a male ever to come to the attention of my male perspective.
Abigail Washburn and the Sparrow Quartet featuring Bela Fleck who's first full length album is due out May 20th. Go get it. Everything they did was fantastic. Abigail is music's ambassador of peace, having performed in China and Tibet. Be sure to check out the video's on the Blue Plate Page to see what you are missing.
Feedback:
Abigail Washburn is the only non-new name to me, but your judgement is all I need to know, thanks for this, Tom.
Looks great. Now, how do I hear this?
Caught Jennifer Daniels while visiting in Chattanooga a few years back...the rest are new to me. Would love to give this a listen.
life Is good eh Tom!
Tasty! What's for dessert?
Saw Kevin Gordon at Jazzfest in Nawlins in '01 and he blew me away. What I've heard of Olney I've really liked too.
ditto derek on this one - your judgement is quite enough to sell me, where do i get a listen?
I know the Sparrow Quartet, little else. Should this get a belated upload I shall be listening..
I'm probably going to head to the Blue Plate on Friday. Those noontime shows are such a treat for those of us around Knoxville.
Nice!
