Comment:
On the trail of a crazed killer. He started out as many of us do, hanging out in bars and falling in love. as the albums progressed the bars got seedier and you could tell he was heading in the wrong direction. Somewhere around Foreign Affairs things started to go wrong. Maybe it was that chance meeting with Bette Midler in I Never Talk to Strangers. I believe the first killing came in Potter's Field but we will never be able to prove that one. I know by Blue Valentine woman started disappearing. Three albums go by without any killings (well there was that chihuahua from Swordfishtrombone)but with Rain Dogs he struck again. By Bone Machine it's in his blood and there is no going back. It is here that he begins his Jesus song cycle. Coincidence? The killings come regularly now. Suddenly at Real Gone they multiply. He's getting careless or does he want to get caught. Orphans is a frenzy. I can sense him up ahead. It is only a matter of time now...Feedback:
I love Tom Waits and this mix rocks...but if I were you I'd turn around and run for your life!
murder ballads indeedy . . . not an entirely decent concept, but the listing is great . . . killer mix !
Maybe we had better dig up "Flower's Grave"....
Can't go wrong with Tom
how many other artists can you think of that you make theme mixes from entirely within their catalogue? not many -- & it's a testament to tom's rich career, & to you for compiling it ... great job
Thanks again for the crash course in Waits, I'm forever in your debt ;-)
Yeah, this'ld be a pretty perfect mix for driving down dark rural roads on cold rainy nights in a beat up '69 Caddy Convertible with three colors of primer and mismatched plates, looking for hitvhhikers.
Man.. I'm just wondering 'how's it gonna end?'
Great concept, great selections!
F-ing A. Captures his essence quite nicely... Also covers covers most of my all time favorite songs... I have a soft spot for his dark(er) twisty(er) side, though it's hard to listen to some such things in small rooms at night by myself.
