Comment:
A tribute to the extrordinary production abilities of Daniel Lanois. His trio of masterpieces, Wrecking Ball (1995), Time Out of Mind (1997), and Teatro (1998) brought him to my attention. I purchased For the Beauty of Wynonia and Shine to investigate his performing ability and was surprised and impressed. As i began compiling a mix of songs that he has produced it struck me how sonically related the songs all were. I began to realize that they formed a cohert collection, a undiscovered album of Daniel and his friends. Dedicated to Hemizen, on his birthday, for helping get where i am.
Feedback:
Really nice. I planned to do some sort of tribute to Lanois at one point - never got 'round to it - this one looks mint.
love the two dylan tracks, but dunno much else -- i guess i'll have to delve further into his production jobs...
Marvellous and I'll even forgive him for working with Zimmerman! (though I couldn't bare listening to those two Dylan tracks!!!)
F.C., all you have to do when you run across a Dylan track is sing louder than him. EVERYBODY sings better than him but nobody writes like him. Wonderful mix and thanks for the dedication.
Very nice collection. I've bought many CDs over the years on his production credit alone. Always turned out great.
I need to dig deeper here, 9-12 is just stunning.
yep, a good subject to inspire a mix . . . he did wonders for Dylan's career, but I must say that I have never listened to him as an artist in his own right . . . I'll give him a go . . . .
"Sleeping in the Devil's Bed" was Lanois' contribution to the sountrack to "Until the End of the World" is a great song, one of the best on an incredible soundtrack. Makes a good pair with T-Bone's Humans from Earth.
Great mix. Daniel doesn't so much produce an album as become a member of the band durning the sessions. You need something from Chris Whitleys first though.
Dreamy stuff... his work with Eno is also recommended.
Robbie Robertson - YAY! I love him! Somewhere down the Crazy River has to be one of the most sensuous records ever. I actually think the rest of the album is let down by the smoothness and the 'all-star' cast...
Your Lanois mix is terrific, thank you! I was familiar with about half the tracks already, but hearing these all in a bunch really underscores how powerful and distinctive his production is. Great choices, great sequencing, and great mix.
