Comment:
Off to college and still tied to the radio. College Radio instead of Local Fm radio but still radio and still worth listening to. At some point radio became unbearable for me but not yet. Starting to branch out by raiding roommates record collections and hitting used record stores with some free spirited music lovers. Single Bullet Theory was purchased by a roommate solely on the basis of the squirt guns on the album cover. The same with Flash and the Pan only with Frisbees. David Byrne's catatonic performance of Take Me to the River on SNL captivated us all. Ian Dury was discovered because Aerosmith played Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll as set up music at their concert. And Ian Hunter became my idol. The best concert I attended in this era was Ian Hunter and Johnny Cougar. Ian's first solo album is still most often the answer to the question: What is your all time favorite album?
Feedback:
Lots and lots of favorites here!
I know your generation, mate. Love it all and would love a copy. I wonder if you are the only one to have ever used a track from Single Bullet Theory - a Richmond (VA) band that I knew well.
That Bram Tchaikovsky track has been popping up all over this site. I'm not familiar with Single Bullet Theory but what I know is aces.
This is outstanding stuff. The Cars rule.
Lots of great stuff but the final five blow me away. Are you sure we didn;t hang out 27 years ago?
good memories and a lot of great music too
Fantastic! This is like opening a late 70s time capsule.
Fine choices, and some not so obvious ones either ( Joe Jackson, Nick lowe etc ). Love the Talking Heads, Blondie & Ian Dury tracks also..
Ian Dury, Costello and Cheap Trick are choices that rock solid!
Generational gem
Oh those New Wave years - especially the 'Stiff' artists! Miss Ian Dury, the man was a Prince. Terrific list!
