I recently say Mary Gauthier for free at the WBVXBlue Plate Special, http://www.wdvx.com/main.html, and was inspired to put this together. Most often compared to Townes Van Zant and Lucinda Williams, a potent combo. Sequenced from her early autobiographical songs to her increasingly philosophical songs. Five albums makes a challenging single cd retrospective. Song notes
1) The mixes catchiest tune from an artist who deals in sadness and hope. 2) An early country song. i always hear Mary Chapin-Carpenter singing it in my head. 3) From the first album i bought. It was difficult to get past the title which makes me think Ru Paul but what a pleasant surprise. 4) The sad side of love. 5) Poetic imagery 6) No chorus, all glorious verse. 7) Clever song built around one idea. 8) Not a merry christmas song but i am not convinced it is a sad song either. 9) Social awareness most agreeable. 10) I only wish i had written this song so poignant and elegant. 11) All aliteration and spiritual sweetness. 12) When i die... 13) Tasty picture of alcoholism 14) Big picture philosphy. 15) Tribute to a dying breed. 16) The beauty of the music matches the pace of the images. 17) Post Katrina New Orleans.
This mix is for those of you who haven't discovered Mary. You are in for a treat if you love words, images, and thought.

Yes, she is a real find. I recently discovered her new album Between Daylight and Dark. I loved it so much I went out and got her two previous albums. She is the real deal and anyone checking out this mix is definitely in for a treat.

Mary Gauthier is an artist perfect for mixes because while she has great songs I don't care to listen to her for the lenght of a cd. To much twang for me.
Townes, Twang & Lucinda are prime selling points for me.
well despite loving words, images and thought i have somehow never heard of ms. gauthier. but here's something i can say: i do very much appreciate your commitment to the art of the single-artist mix.
wow, missed this before, I'm a recent convert to Ms. Gauthier, primarily because of I Drink and Mercy Now, although I am enjoying her latest release quite a bit too.
