Comment:
You thought it was going to be another Tom Waits mix, didn't you? Actually it is another step toward my twenty favorite songs of all time mix which is hovering around 50 songs and growing. Who comes up with these silly ideas. I don't know if it will make the top 20 but Just in Time is my favorite Sinatra tune and all of these are worth a listen. If you are younger than thirty you probably don't appreciate Frank, I know I didn't. There is so much ahead of you youngsters. The title, while it is mostly me trying to be clever is not a misnomer as all Frank's years were wild ones.Feedback:
Yes, I was just thinking "Gee that's new, a Waits mix from Tom". Glad to see Sinatra. Summer Wind is my personal favorite, though there are few I don't like. 2 and 11 are my favorites here.
I'm disappointed, I was hoping for another Waits mix instead we get this far inferior singer. Despite my ire I have to admit to liking some of this though if I never hear Lady Is A Tramp again it will be a blessing, reminds me of too many of my old girlfriends.
well i'm under 30 yet i'm a frank fan - in the wee small hours is one of my all-time favorite albums. lots of straight-up classics here.
k&r- i agree that frank did some cheesy songs, tramp included. some irritate me but i love tramp and couldn't resist adding it. don't worry, more waits mixes to come.
His vocal skills are undeniably awesome, although I have to admit that his music never really grabbed me(which by the way is not a popular position here in NJ). Anyway, nice collection.
Lots of these are classic. And yes, I thought this would be another Tom Waits mix. My Frank favorites are "I Can't Get Started," "Witchcraft," "The Way You Look Tonight" and "The Lady is a Tramp," for what it's worth.
Pure Class. The Mix & The subject matter. And the mixer...
Indeed I did, you snagged me And it was a pleasant surprise.
Great stuff, especially 2,4,5,9,11,14 and 16 (although my fav is "That's Life"). Didn't Frank cover "Christmas Card from a Hooker..."?
Mark, I can't find any evidence that Frank covered Tom but I love to here that. Let me know if you can track it down.
I can't never listen to Frank on a casual occasion. I have to be in a jazz lounge smoking a cigar or something like that. This mix is pretty much embodies those types of occasions. Really nice. Especially liking the 4, 8, 12 and 13 selections.
A nice surprise.
Yeah but is Frank's version of "Just in Time" better than Loren Green's?....
i was wondering when you would get around to commenting. in my mind, no one beats lorne greene's version, but i am afraid to go back and listen.
He had the voice & he had the style - though (as with Elvis & Picasso) I'll always take the young & hungry Frank over the old fat one.
I've never heard "French Foreign Legion", is that one early or late or when?

Joey - you need to hear it. when i picked up a couple of box sets a few years ago, FFL was the best surprise. i had never heard it myself.
