Comment:

Here's my best-of 2007 double disc mix. I thought this was the year where I'd lose touch with new releases because of work and other related stuff, but it wasn't the case at all. Infact I probably got into more stuff because of it (Internet and me at work is not a good combo for productivity)! Anyway, my initial idea was to have one side pure "punch-you-in-the-face" music with the second side leaning towards more of a "laid-back-ambient-folkish-Sunday-afternoon" vibe. Unfortunately I didn't have an even distribution so I mixed it all up creating a bit of a bipolar mix with varying degrees of success. I've given it to some friends who are currently living abroad and a few other fine folks I know and they've said they've really enjoyed it... or maybe they were just being polite.
I really hope you all had a great 2007 and I look forward to hearing your mixes!
Enjoy: Disc I & Disc II. Title from the excellent, excellent Jay Reatard tune.

Black Dice, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Wooden Shjips and Panda Bear are high-lights for me. Some how I missed the Robert Wyatt album which I hear is great.

A lot of good stuff on here, including the 1900s (not 1990s), Wooden Shjips, Talib Kweli, Electrelane, Black Dice... Based on everyone else's Best Ofs, it's become apparent I don't need to make one of my own. Cool.

gabechouinard: I think you're mistaken... there's no band named the 1900s... but the1990s do exist.

Well, bugger me! Paint me blue and call me Rita.

There is also a group called the 1900s which is very awesome... who definitely fit in my top discoveries of the year.

Great stuff. On a personal note, that Dungen song almost made my mix and I really love the Wyatt track (my second-fave song from my album of the year), as well as the Fiery Furnaces, Dalek, Wooden Shjips and Major Stars picks.

Looks very cool, and thx again for the Mary Weiss track back in the day.

For 2008 I'm thinking of not listening to any new music until the "Best Of's" come out. ;-)

Geez! I thought I was pretty familiar with most of what got released this last year, but a lot of the above leaves me scratcing my head. Better investigate this whole downloading phenomenon.

hey salman, I listened to your new mix today also! as everyone probably knows, I'm out-of-step with the latest things, so I only knew a few of these in advance. really enjoyed the Gang Gang Dance/M.I.A. pair (gotta get the new M.I.A.), and the Stars of the Lid through Kevin Ayers set was real nice. New Pornographers and Black Dice were other faves on side one. loved the wonderfully weird opener of side two, along with Welcome, Robert Wyatt, Yeasayer and Panda Bear. enjoyed the wide variety found here, as usual.
