Comment:
I've buried and dug up and buried this mix over and over trying to get the right mix of classics, and hopefully, discoveries for this archetypical mix. Hearing Killing Him for the first time recently on WDVX was the catalyst for completion. If it is possible to enjoy tales of murder, Enjoy!Feedback:
of course no one excels in this theme better than tom waits, though the bruce, neil young, & love are great too
Can never enough of songs like these. And, seemingly enough, this guy behind me with brandishing a knife seems to dig this mix as well. I mean he has this odd sinister smirk goin'. You know, I ought to ask him why he's herrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
That is sad about Dead Molly and the rest of these poor souls. saw this and checked back to this exhibit which needs to get reactivated so this gem can be added.
This is a cool mix, good sir. To Mixxer: you may want to add Funky Ratchet's MotW from a couple of weeks ago to the exhibit, as well.
Rob: The Murder Most Foul exhibit that I linked to is operated by Mo Twang and I don't think he's been around in a while. (In any case, the newest mix in that exhibit is from 2003.) This mix and FR's are awaiting their place in the sun. Or down by the river.
Fantastic! I've been (rather slowly) compiling more recent/modern murder ballads with the intent of doing a second volume, and #4, 9-10 are on the roster. Great Waits picks too...especially like Lucinda.
gotta love a murder ballad ! Love pretty much nail Hey Joe, don't they ?
Nothing like a good murder ballad and there's a bunch of great ones here.
Bloodthirsty!
Killer.
Wow, great execuation on this murderous theme. I like that Warren Zevon selection a lot.
Very cool -- and I do need to update the murder ballad exhibit I started long ago.
I Love The Nick Cave song...
How did I know Tom Waits would be involved? Dead and Lovely is a top song.
Waits and Zevon are two artists with murder in their hearts. If they had been authors, they might have been Elmore Leonard or Raymond Carver.
Great picks, great idea and mix.
I've just finished listening to this, and thoroughly enjoyable it was. Lovely opener by someone I've never heard, great violins. Loved the Waits and Neil picks. The Cave duet is class, of course. As is Nebraska. Loved the last two also..
I'm a huge fan of murder ballads, and you've got a few great ones on here. Nicely done.
nice
Great! That Jim White tune is a back-breaker, isn't it?
Down By The River is the greatest song in the history of the universe. The other songs on this mix ain't half bad either. I haven't heard that Bruce album in ages. Great job!
One of my least favorite Bruce songs, but of course it works in context. Excellent job my friend.
And I'm surprised that you had any room left after all that Neil noodling (though that is noodling that I truly love).
Mahdishain does Murder Ballads! Sorry I missed this before... you know how I unfortunately tend to go out of commission on all aspects of AOTM at times... but really... who could do this topic better?? and you *know* how i love "widow's grove" and "lucinda".
oh... and the *title*!! i *do* so love the title. puts me in that great, ambiguous-happy-murderous mood, don'tcha know?
Nice mix . Can I humbly suggest checking my similar mix out? http://www.artofthemix.org/FindAMix/getcontents2.aspx?strMixID=63595
