Abigail Washburn is my latest obssession. I know, you all are saying, "Mahdishain you are so fickle.What happened to Amy and Laura and Jennifer and Melissa, and that's just this year. What about Joni and Ricky Lee and Maria and Linda. Or Sarah and Sheryl and Fiona". There is always a new pretty face and little girl voice.
Abi is the real thing. She's gorgeous with a radiant smile. She writes modern songs that sound ancient, she prevents old songs from being forgotten and she speaks Mandarin Chinese. How cool is that? She plays in an all girl string band and in a quartet with world class players. Bela Fleck anyone? She's personable and has a slightly bawdy side. She's a musical ambassador to China. She played Tibet! What more could anyone want? OK, she does play the banjo. And yodel. At this stage the yodelling is still cute. Years from now that's going to be annoying but who cares?, I am in Love.
The Uncle Earl tracks are from She Waits For Night. The solo material comes from Songs of the Traveling Daughter. Tracks 4, 10, and 11 are from the Sparrow Quartet's EP.
The remainder of the Sparrow Quartet songs are from their first full length album which was released Tuesday May, 20th.
With apologies to Sammy for including my allstar selection before his mix debuts. I couldn't resist. And since we are the only two who know which song it is, what could it hurt?

"Bawdy" is a sorely underused adjective. You paint an interesting picture...I'll certainly have to seek out some of her material.

As a rule female vocals are pretty low key in the Frenchy household but Abi proves her self to be a worthy exception.
so does this then mean abigail washburn would be better off having a bela fleck sampler machine perpetually tied to her hip...?
