Comment:

Compiled for a friend with rather diverse tastes. It turned out kind of schizophrenic, but oddly cohesive. The Ferlinghetti, Ginsberg and Corso tracks are from a superb box set, "Howls, Raps and Roars - Recordings from the San Francisco Poetry Renaissance" on Fantasy. The Ray Charles song comes from the excellent "Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music" which I weaseled from my father.

Man this is truely bizzare. Replacements with Tom Waits? I am a huge Mats fan and Waits fan, but I have never heard of this one. You have peaked my curiosity. Any hints where to find?

The Replacements with Tom Waits track is on the Replacements' Reprise 2-disc best-of. The second disc is all unreleased stuff, and Date to Church is on there. Tom doesn't really sing so much as wail in a Waits-ian fashion. Still great.

I should also add that "What I Say" is a 5-minute excerpt, because the track on LIVE-EVIL is 20 minutes long.

Where did you find the Chuck D/Charles Mingus thing? I imagine that would be great.

Chuck D/Mingus thing comes from the CD "Meditations on Mingus", a tribute put together by prod. Hal Willner. Has some strange and great things on it, like Hubert Selby, Jr. reading a poem and Keef Richards singing the blues "Lord, Don't Let Them Drop that Atomic Bomb On Me."
