Comment:
You think you know how your life will turn out. I swore, once I had moved away from the suburban greenery of my parents' house and into the first of a string of apartments, that I would never again have a lawn to cut. Flash forward a few years to the scene wherein she and I are buying the house in the country. Pan back: grass as far as the eye can see. I spent the first summer sweating like a galley slave behind the push mower, the motor jack-hammering away, my forearms aching. By the time I finished it was long enough to start cutting again. This spring we found an ad for a used ride-on we thought we could afford, so now we are in possession of a somewhat battered MasterCraft 16hp, 7-speed unit with a 42" cutting deck. Picture me on a Saturday afternoon, bursting with pride and grinning ear to ear, my straw hat on my head, turning circles on the back forty, while all the neighbors do the same. The thing's loud as hell, so I figured I'd make a mowing tape to listen to on the cordless headphones while I worked. If you're going to lose your hearing, you might as well sing along. As the tape starts with Cheap Trick being introduced to the screaming crowd at Budokan, I'm turning the key, firing the beast to life and rolling out of the shed. Here's to unexpected material acquisitions and farmer's tans.Feedback:
Should suffice!
amazing!
i'm mowed away!
well, you know what they say: you can take the kid out of the suburban greenery, but you can't the blah blah blah. of course, you might also need a brooklyn cyclones cap while surveying the work to be done. with a mustard stain! from the actual cyclodome! we'll work on that.
nice choices all around here, mr. forbes. good stuff!

Hey hey, Teapin. Yes, a Cyclones cap cocked to the side, sort of jaunty, sort of trucker-ish, to keep the sun from my eyes while I corner around the trees and accidentally back over the tulips. Thanks for the kind words.
"young livers"! that is such a fine fine way to start a tape side. and bright eyes to end it (ahem). well done! (and what, you like the tyde now? that figures; it's been about six months or so.)
also: westerberg; "imitation of life"; ze malibu kids; that "take on me" cover (you can hear the coughing!); new pornographers; cat power. it's like you're creating sun.
Never said I didn't like the Tyde. It's not like I condemned it before coming around, a la Mazzy Star back in the day. And, yes, thanks for the Bright Eyes; CC loves it. AND, unintentional yet fascinating tie-in: Calla precedes "Best Ever..." and some members of Calla are from Denton, TX. Amazing.
did you do that on purpose? it's clever anyway. because calla are in fact the best ever death metal band from denton (and don't even try to front! initially when i asked you if you liked "new confessions" you were all "whatever" about it.)
