Comment:

Here's an attempt at making a country fried soul mix... but the picnic got rained out, and everyone went home thus making this mix a lot more slower and pensive. Their's a cyclical theme of renewal; "Message From A Black Man" is sampled on tracks 1, 6, 16 and 21, so everything starts anew every five tracks. It's the first time I've done this and I don't know why I've never done it before as it made the mix really cohesive.
Thanks to Sam for tracks 5, 18 and 19. Enjoy: 72min:22sec.

Sly & The Family Stone & the Heptones in particular, but the whole thing looks nice.

Awesome. It's always a (little) sign of a great mix for me if I drop everything and proceed to listen the very second the download comes through. Which is exactly what I did tonight. You're welcome re: those 3 tracks, and they were used to fine effect. Of the tracks that were new to me was The Roots (never fail to impress), the delightful Mittoo instrumental and the Kool & the Gang.
Loved the closer also, and glad to finally hear where J Dilla got that sample from..

And of course the pic represents a stoned soul picnic! Will definitely be checking this one out.

Fuck. I LOVE THIS. Must download immediately. Hope you don't mind if I continue with my plan to use that very same (utterly fantastic) Gnarls Barkley song on my next mixed-genre mix...

This is awesome. That's one of my favorite Otis songs. One minor thing... country-fried soul with no Solomon Burke? You must be crazy!

always excited to see a mix of yours posted, & even more excited when there's a link, as they're some of my favorites on this site - love the otis, sly stone, roots, gladys knight, RZA, gnarls barkley & brenton wood tracks the mostest...

yeah... after listening, I don't know why you haven't done it before either. super songs, Salman. like Sam, I dug the Jackie Mittoo and Kool and the Gang tracks, along w/ Tami Lynn and The Sylvers. this was one of the more popular mixes with my work colleagues - a diverse group, indeed. Grover was drawn to the Eyes Low/Kool & the Gang pair, whereas Herbert mentioned liking RZA and King Geedorah. (names were changed to protect their privacy.)

After listening to this I was reminded why I don't like rap and hip-hop with lyrics: I can't tolerate the language. But I loved many of the other tracks, especially that Gnarls Barkley track and track 6. Thanks for the dl.
