Comment:
This is the third disc of "Sixty Licks", a Rolling Stones compilation I formulated. The most obvious omission here is that "Anybody Seen My Baby?" - the lead single from "Bridges To Babylon" - wasn't included, though this is due to time contraints, and my feeling that their recordings from the '70s and '80s are more significant in certain respects as they depict the band while they were still evolving (albeit at a slower rate than in the '60s). Some may quibble with the selection of "You Got Me Rocking" over the aforementioned track, but this choice was, again, due to a lack of CD space - "You Got Me Rocking" is three minutes, while "Seen My Baby?" is five.Another slight blip detractors might point out is that "Black and Blue" receives less coverage here than any of the Stones' pre-Undercover outings. This is byinlarge because B&B is a difficult album to anthologize, as it is comprised more of long, atmospheric jams than tracks that stand out in mix form (though obviously "Fool To Cry" is a necessary inclusion). Aside from which, the most logical inclusions from that record - "Memory Motel" and "Hot Stuff" - are both problematic in this context, the former because it takes up seven minutes of space, and the latter because it's a somewhat innocuous single (I hesitate to say unmemorable).
Principally, too, I believe that as many tracks should be included from "Tattoo You" as "Some Girls", so "Hang Fire" is here instead of "Respectable".
Feedback:
Great band.
Don't mind the maggots! Could be the subtitle of this one.
You and I both are verging on 'anorak' when it comes to the Stones. Excellent.
