Comment:
I formulated this compilation in response to the godawful "Greatest Hits" CD currently available from The Notorious B.I.G., which - among other misdemeanors - doesn't include "Mo Money Mo Problems", "Going Back to Cali", "Player's Anthem" or "Sky's the Limit", and is saturated by posthumous tracks. So what you get here is definitely an improvement, whatever critiques one may have - Biggie's pre-Ready to Die career is represented by "Party and Bullshit" and the #9 single "Flava In Ya Ear", the latter of which is followed by Ready to Die's three singles - "Juicy", "Big Poppa", "One More Chance / Stay With Me (Remix)", and the infamous B-side, "Who Shot Ya?" (here for historical interest). Thereafter, the logical cuts are sampled from Biggie's Junior M.A.F.I.A. stint - "Player's Anthem" and "Get Money" - and five songs appear from his magnum opus, "Life After Death", including, perhaps controversially, "Ten Crack Commandments" - which I would argue is easily one of his greatest performances, though one might prefer "Notorious Thugs." Finally are three posthumous tracks: "Dead Wrong" - an obvious choice - "Notorious B.I.G.", which has been made more famous due to its prominent usage in the "Notorious" film, and "Nasty Girl", which in spite of being fairly awful demands inclusion due to its success as a UK #1 single.
