Comment:

When I left Philadelphia, I made my friends a 6 CD mix collection. The songs that comprise those discs were taken from some of the 1,000 CDs I've had to sell since getting laid off to be able to afford a move to Chicago.

While not all of the songs are about leaving town, a big majority of the tracks here are. If you're ever making a Goodbye or breakup tape, consult some of these sources.

Here's some info about some of the tracks and why they're included:
- "Nebraska" Never a big Bruce fan, but this album (this is the title track) is PERFECT. Bruce on a 4-track... indie stylee. It doesn't hurt that I'm from Nebraska and am tangentially related to the crime story described in the song.
- "Windfall" One of the hardest CDs in my collection to part with. Son Volt's "TRACE" is a flawless record.
- "Car Radio" ... Great song to hit the road to.
- "Electric Co." Included here because U2's "Boy" was one of the first tapes I ever owned... a gift from my oldest brother, whom I don't really get along with that well. This was U2's debut, long before the stadiums took over.
- "At My Window" alternate version from the Mermaid Ave. album. Sooooo sad.
- "Fearless" If you've never heard this song, and especially if you AREN'T a Pink Floyd fan, check this track out from their "Meddle" album.
- "Mama Told Me..." This is the version from the FEAR AND LOATHING soundtrack, with Dr. Gonzo's great speech about Laslo and the mounting room service bill.

Yes, parting with CDs is such sweet sorrow -- especially when you're only paid a buck or two for something you shelled out over 12 bucks for. Not much investment value in buying CDs. Anyway, nice series of mixes. Fearless is my favorite post-Syd Pink Floyd track.

Thanks. I actually sold the CDs one-at-a-time... online. So at least I didn't take it up the ass from some used record store. I still have stuff for sale on Ebay and at Half.com. I think I'm down to my last 100, 150 cds.

Hey Nick,

The Emmitt Rhodes song is incredible. One of the CDs I sold was his debut album... it was great. I did manage to copy almost all the CDs before I sold them, so at least I still have the music.
