Comment:

When I left Philadelphia, I made my friends a 6 CD mix collection. The songs that comprise those discs were taken from some of the 1,000 CDs I've had to sell since getting laid off to be able to afford a move to Chicago.

While not all of the songs are about leaving town, a big majority of the tracks here are. If you're ever making a Goodbye or breakup tape, consult some of these sources.

Here's some info about some of the tracks and why they're included:
- Last words on this mix, from Dinosaur Jr: "Sorry I fucked it all up... again...."
- The segue from Cat Power's Stones cover into the actual Stones works great.
- The transition from Poochie's Rap into the Ultramagnetic MC's is PERFECT... same exact saxophone sound.
- Lots of dead folks on these mixes... This CD in particular brings back Nick Drake, Tim Buckley, Lennon and Harrison, Joe Strummer, Linda McCartney...
- "Look Down Darkly", if you've never heard the Waxwings, is insanely brilliant. The Beach Boys meet Built to Spill.

Funny story about that Air song: It wound up on this mix as a tribute to one of the Philly friends I was leaving behind. I was witness to a scary drug mishap this guy had, and we put Air on afterwards as he was getting back to "normal." My other friends never heard the story, so the song is an inside joke for him.
