Comment:

A lot of people say that Sebadoh, especially when Eric Gaffney was still in the band, had a schizophrenic feel to it, which, in my opinion, translated into loving Lou Barlow's sensitive folkish songs, hating Eric Gaffney's experimental stuff and not caring for Jason Loewenstein's mixture of Lou and Eric song styles. I personally like Eric's songs as much as Lou's and Jason has his odd gems on each of the albums he's played on. This schizophrenic feel that the early Sebadoh albums had was quite endearing and captivating to me. In relation to the "schizophrenic" characterization of Sebadoh, this mix is not in any sort of chronological order as I have arranged the songs to make the mix sort of erratic and "jumpy." This mix is a lot more schizophrenic than any of there albums! I didn't add any b-sides and most of the songs are from "The Freed Weed", "III" and "Bubble and Scrape." I'm not the biggest fan of there work post-"Bakesale" but "Harmacy" and "The Sebadoh" do have the odd gem in them...but not many, in my opinion at least.

I actually like "The Sebadoh," a lot more than you obviously... but yeah, their sound had changed by then.

I'm with you almost 100% on your comments and you picked most of my favorites here. I think that Bakesale was about one-third great, one-third good and one-third lousy, and I like very little on Harmacy, and *nothing* on The Sebadoh.

Yeah, I agree with you on "Bakesale" and "Harmacy" has always felt to me incomplete for some reason. I never really got into "The Sebadoh." Lou's songs weren't too steller, in my opinion but Jason's songs were probably some of his best...but I don't think anyon buys Sebadoh albums because of Jason!

I have to agree with Patrick. The Sebadoh is a highly underated album. I listened to it again recently and it has some great stuff. Granted, it doesn't hold up as well under repeated listening though...
