Comment:

This was my entry to this year's CDX (http://www.daisydo.com/cdx2003/), which went down this past weekend. "Rocked by the XX" explores my fascination/admiration for indie rock girls with guitars. This all 'femme-throated' mix is largely comprised of less-obvious song selections (a facet that I always excessively fret about), and even feature a handful of acts that typically have a male vocalist (Sonic Youth, Beat Happening, Servotron). The sequence begins with an SNL 'Biography' spoof where a drunken Jack Perkins quotes a line from Pat Benatar's 'Shadows of the Night'- Pat's version shows up at disc's end, unlisted. Nestled in the center of the cd is a Muff's song, 'Big Mouth', which is followed by a rant by Courtney Love left on Kim Shattuck's anwering machine- Joan Jett's 'Bad Reputation aptly follows. A final note: the Go-Go's original track 'Surfing and Spying', practically a surf-instrumental- was the b-side to 'Our Lips Are Sealed' and was later COVERED by- The Ventures!

Agreed on the ass-kicking.

Not the "women with guitars" collection I'd have made, but it shows me some things I wish I'd included on the one I DID make :)

Very well put together. There are some gems here. Favorites include funky cuts by Sleeper, Jane Jensen, The Geraldine Fibbers, Servotron, Dressy Bessy... Really an abundance of excellent sound. Easily one of my favorite mixes in this genre. By the way, great packaging also... Good work!
