CINEMA-PHONIC vol ~2~
Even More of 'Perhaps the Less-Obvious Song Selections?'

The middle volume of a trilogy which compiles:
a) Modern, soundtrack songs I like... -WHICH USUALLY:
b) aren't the most obvious selections from soundtracks...
-BUT:
c) the 'Perhaps' part absolves me of any flights of fancy that opening defy the 'Less-Obvious Song Selections' part.

The subtext of this project:
a) To finally get rid of soundtrack Cds in my collection, some of which existed there soley on the strength of a single track.
b) To include great songs heard in a movie, (some) for legal reasons weren't included on the official soundtrack CD (Wes Anderson films are a nice example and a prime motivator)

I eventually came to terms with the idea that what I was really ending up with were songs that I was secretly convinced would make a pretty cool dance party! So, basically, the whole movie thing becomes a flimsy premise which just barely links these disparate song choices together. I'm nothing if not eccentric! A year later, I am realizing that a whopping 6 of these tracks are cover songs- a possible violation of my anal criteria...?

* Of considerable interest: Like to Get to Know You Well BETTER OFF DEAD Howard Jones / Kung Fu RUMBLE IN THE BRONX Ash / I Am Waiting RUSHMORE The Rolling Stones - were NOT available on their respective soundtrack cds.

* The included version of 'Van Diemen's Land' RATTLE AND HUM U2 (The Edge) is taken directly from the grittier video performance which differs from the Rattle & Hum CD recording.
* The included version of 'Free' EMPIRE RECORDS The Martinis, is actually taken from the bands debut album instead of the more polished Empire Records soundtrack take. (The Martinis feature former Pixie's guitarist Joey Santiago and his wife.)

This was my entrant into CDX02.2, Nov. 2002.
