Comment:

I may be in the minority here, but I think the Olivia Tremor Control were the pinnacle of the E6 collective, and "Black Foliage" is the best album released by any E6 band. Anyway, I recently looked at Rob Conroy's and Popkulcher's OTC mix and decided to make one of my own. The tracklisting isn't in chronological order, which I found worked for this mix. I decided to put in the Peel Sessions "Suite 1" because it rocks. Those versions of the song are better than the actual recorded ones, especially "The Giant Day." Definetly one of the most interesting bands from the 1990s. Title from "Black Foliage (itself)."

I agree. OTC is E6 maximus. I'll have to look for those Peel sessions.

These guys were great and thanks for the nod. Although you're more into their instrumental stuff than I am, this is a good mix.

Just what the honorable, (and knowledgeable), Saaf said.

I don't know them but have now listened to the download and will investigate further (the quality of the download isn't too clever, however).

Great band, well mixed. While I tend to give a slight edge to Neutral Milk Hotel in the E6 sweepstakes (Aeroplane being one of my favorite albums ever), Dusk At Cubist Castle runs a very close second. I tend to favor Dusk over Black Foliage -- the latter may have a couple slightly better, more fully realized songs, but the between-song experimental collages wear thing quite quickly. I miss these guys; neither of the post-breakup bands (Sunshine Fix or Circulatory System) have the same magic, though each have a few fine tunes (which I included on my own OTC mix, http://www.artofthemix.org/FindAMix/getcontents.asp?strMixID=30333).

That should say "wear thin," not "wear thing." Damn you, early morning fingers!
