So in the latest issue of Spin there's a funny quote from Carrie Brownstein of Sleater-Kinney dismissing bands like Interpol (and a bunch of unnamed others) that tend to get compared with Gang of Four. "These new bands sound like Gang of Four," she says, "if Gang of Four SUCKED." It's a great line, but I actually love a lot of those bands, so this compilation is a sort of rebuttal - some of these bands, and some of their 80s influences, bookended by a couple of Gang of Four tracks. Not all the bands on it sound much like Gang of Four, but they sound like they at least listen to a lot of Gang of Four. (The Fall doesn't quite fit conceptually here, but the song works really well in the mix.) This is actually a CD playlist. Nice cover art for those who trade!
