Comment:
Who says you don't get a second chance? Here's selection of songs by some of my favorite musical second acts -- new bands founded by refugees from older bands, some of which went on to greater glory than the first acts. (The older bands are listed in parentheses.) The stories behind these second acts vary tremendously; some of the older bands survived, some didn't. Some of the new bands are "supergroups" of sorts, others new ventures started up after the prime mover(s) behind the older band dissolved them and moved on. In the case of Yaz, many were mre surprised by the survival of Depeche Mode than by the success of Vince Clarke's new venture. In the case of the Breeders, Kim Deal proved without a doubt that Gigantic had not been a fluke. Some of these second acts went on to have second acts of their own -- eg, Tones of Tail led to Love and Rockets. (Trainspotters will notice that the ELO song here is in fact a cover of a song by ... The Move.) The crappy CD cover here is a highly photoshopped puppet theater.
Feedback:
Cool idea and fine choices.
Great idea, I'd love to give it a go sometime. I was just listenin to the Public Image.
