Comment:
Made for Beth for her birthday in March of 2003. Tough to be in a celebratory mood as our country embarks on an illegal invasion of a sovereign nation. Empty terms like "liberty" and "freedom" are thrown about, when it is painfully clear that our motivations lie more in power and unchecked greed. I attend the mass demonstrations (which, in turn, are all but blacked out by the corporate media), but the bottom line is this: As long as I continue to work 60 hours a week to pay my debts, my bills, and my rent, I am funding the war (which the majority of Americans do not support) of a sociopathic fool (who the majority of Americans did not vote for) through my tax dollars. Fucking depressing. The title comes, of course, from the classic Anti lp. NOTES: 1) Cleveland Bound Death Sentence has St. Patrick from Dillinger Four, Aaron Cometbus from Crimpshrine (and many, many others), and one of the ladies from the Salteens in it. What a great band. 2) Jesse has the vocalist from Leatherface, and has a similar sound in many respects. 3) Contropotere is composed of ten or so Italian folks who live together in a squat. 4) Lost World is post-Day by Day. 5) The Anthrax track is from the early-80s English peace-punk Anthrax, not the mid-80s Bay Area thrash Anthrax. The song is off their second ep, but I can't remember the title. 6) Mukilteo Fairies is pre-Behead the Prophet No Lord Shall Live. So, so good. 7) White Trash Superman is pre-Grumpies. In fact, the Grumpies later covered this track on their lp on Recess (in addition to a Fondled cover). 8) Instant Girl is something like three out of four of the folks from Spitboy. 9) Mundt is a collaboration between Aaron Cometbus (Crimpshrine, Pinhead Gunpowder, etc.) and Quitty (Behead the Prophet No Lord Shall Live). 10) The Gr'ups includes vocals from Anna Joy and Jesse Luscious from Blatz.Feedback:
I don't think I've ever heard any of those songs or bands, but, my god, it's a very good point.
i may not agree with everything you say, but i'll fight to the death my right to deny it. (actually, i agree with most of it.) from the very, very little i recognize here, this looks like a successfully angry mix.
Mighty powerful--not in monopolar hegemonic kind of way, but rather in the resistant joy of punk. I am super excited to see the 2.5 Children, Inc. track finish things off. How on earth did such an obscure song by an obscure band find it's way into your record collection? I live near West Chester, so I have an excuse. By far the most important band of my formative years. though I never saw them play... sad.
